Welcome to Vienna in 2011!

at the
1st TBI-Challenge.eu 2011

BIENNIAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
of the
BRAIN INJURY AND FAMILIES / EUROPEAN FEDERATION (BIF)

Through high-quality primary care centre treatment and progress in intensive care medicine more and more traumatic brain injury (TBI) victims can be transferred form first aid and primary care at the intensive care unit to the dynamic process of neurological rehabilitation.
Neurorehabilitation is a teamwork and medical doctors, nursing staff, therapists, social workers, neuropsychologists, family members have to take care together for the recovery of the, often severely handicapped traumatic brain injured. Social security and national health systems are also part of the neurorehabilitation team, hence strong and trustful collaboration with the medical and family parts would be desirable. TBI as the pathology with the 1000 faces challenges research in the fields of traumatology, neurosurgery, intensive care, neurology, neurorehablitation and psychology. Medicine has to collaborate with industries to find out new solutions to reduce first and secondary brain damage including the elaboration of new techniques and improve preventive measures as well as the reeducational approach from a medical, psychological, technical and pharmaceutical point of view.
The congress will be under the sign of new and scientific approach in Neuropsychopharmacology, Brainstimulation, Brain Computer Interface, Neurotechnology, Telemedicine, Long-term Rehabilitation in Mild and Severe TBI, Pain after TBI, Movement Disorders in TBI Rehabilitation, Intensive Care and Prognosis after TBI, Clinical Research in Acute and Postacute Care, Prevention in Intensive Care and Long-term Rehabilitation, Neuropsychological and Psychological Changes in TB Injured and Families on Short and Long-term Level, Sociomedical Approach on TBI and Outcome and Quality of Life after TBI. The scientific work will be presented in oral presentations and poster sessions.
The European Association Brain Injured and Families (BIF-Europe) in cooperation with the Austrian Association of TBI organising the congress should receive formal endorsements through the European Brain Injury Society, the Austrian Society of Neurological Rehabilitation, the Austrian Society of Neurology, the Austrian and Viennese Family Association of TBI and the Austrian Ministry of Health, Family and Youth.

We are further more pleased to announce the Life after TBI.eu 20xx Workshop for European Health and Social system responsibles, the TBI-Award.eu 20xx for the best scientific work and the TBI-Challenge Continuing Education 20xx (TCE) as the educational program for the congress.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Vienna!

With the very best regards

Nikolaus Steinhoff
